Russian Mikoyan-Gurevich created the MiG-15 in 1946 and had its first flight in 1947. The jet shocked the U.S. Military with its climb rate and swiftness. It used a VK-1 turbojet which was a copy of the Roll-Royce Nene. In the Korean War, the aircraft forced the U.S. Air Force to speed up the development of the superior F-86 Sabre. The Russians made over 12,000 MiG-15s.
